What the Dev's doing!

Writer's picture: Old Rusty GamingOld Rusty Gaming

Hello, Rust fans! We are back with another update on what the developers have been working on during the hack week. This is a special time when they can experiment with new ideas and features that may or may not make it into the game. But we are always excited to see what they come up with!

Rocket Boots (hack week project)

One of the coolest things they are working on is a pair of rocket boots! Yes, you heard that right, rocket boots! These would allow you to fly for a short time, or jump really high, before landing and recharging. Imagine the possibilities for raiding, escaping, or just having fun!

Entire Base Heating (hack week project)

Another awesome feature they are working on is full base heating. This would let you enjoy the warmth and comfort of a fire anywhere in your base, not just near it. This would be great for those who live in the cold areas, or just want to cosy up in their home.

Weapons for Modular Vehicles (Hack week project)

They are also working on some new weapons for vehicles, such as a cannon module. This would let you fire rockets or other projectiles from your car, making it more deadly and fun to drive. Who doesn't love a good car chase with explosions?

A fresh brew of Tea's

Devs are continuing to prototype new types of tea. These teas would have different effects on you or your animals, such as making your horse faster, or more... productive with Laxative tea! or make your horses and vehicles go faster with some go faster tea.

Some of these teas sound hilarious, and we can't wait to try them out!

That's all for now, folks. Stay tuned for more updates on the hack week projects, and let us know what you think in the comments. Thanks for reading!

What about the actual game?

Other items they are working on for normal game development, Here are some of the highlights:

  • Devs have improved the patrol helicopter's behaviour to make it more unpredictable and challenging. It will now fly over different locations on the map and its rocket accuracy will vary depending on how far you are from it. Also, when it crashes, it will do so in a more random way, creating more opportunities for loot and chaos.

  • They are still working on the minigun, which will be a powerful weapon that can be mounted on vehicles or turrets. They hope to have it ready soon for you to test and enjoy.

  • Devs continue to make some progress on the food system, which is a hack week project that aims to make eating more realistic and fun. You will be able to cook different meals with different ingredients and effects, such as boosting your health, stamina or mood.

  • A fix for a bug that allowed backpacks to work with conveyors, which was not intended. Backpacks are meant to be personal storage items that you can carry with you, not part of the base automation system.

  • Changes to the flag collider/bounds to make it easier to melee dig metal detector stashes. This should make finding hidden treasure more rewarding and less frustrating.

  • They have also fixed some issues with map entity loading, which could cause some objects to disappear or appear in the wrong place.

  • Work continues on Tutorial Island, which is a new feature that will help new players learn the basics of Rust in a safe and friendly environment. Tutorial Island will have different challenges and tasks that will teach you how to survive, craft, build and fight in Rust.

  • There has been some work on tweaking Harbour for Cargo Ship, which is another new feature that will add a dynamic event to the game. Cargo Ship will be a large vessel that will travel around the map and drop crates of loot along the way. You will be able to board the ship and fight other players for the loot, but beware of the guards and turrets that will protect it.

  • They have also worked on full server demos, which will allow us to record and replay everything that happens on a server. This will help us debug issues, improve performance and create cinematic videos of Rust gameplay.

  • Optimized RPC connections, which are the network messages that are sent between the client and the server. This should improve the overall stability and responsiveness of the game.

  • Finally, they have also worked on new explosions, which will make things go boom in a more spectacular and realistic way. You will see more sparks, smoke, fire and debris when you blow something up in Rust.

That's all for now, folks. We hope you are as excited as we are about these updates and we can't wait to hear your feedback. Stay tuned for more news and updates on Rust. Thanks for playing and see you in game!
