Siege Weapons and More

As Rust continues to evolve, the latest updates bring exciting new features to the game, particularly in the realm of siege warfare. The AUX2 branch has introduced several new siege weapons, which are now available for public testing. These additions promise to enhance the strategic depth and dynamic gameplay of Rust.

Catapult

The Catapult is a new constructable entity designed to launch various types of ammunition, including standard boulders, incendiary, and explosive variants. Players can craft and place the Catapult, then build it up to operational status. This powerful weapon adds a new layer to siege warfare, allowing players to breach enemy defences with precision and force.

Battering Ram

The Battering Ram is a formidable tool for breaching defences. This driveable siege weapon can smash through building blocks, requiring about 10 hits to break down a stone wall. It consumes a significant amount of low-grade fuel and needs frequent repairs, adding a realistic layer to siege tactics and resource management.

Siege Tower

The Siege Tower is a tactical addition designed to enhance raiding strategies. With four floors connected by ladders and extendable drawbridges, it allows players to breach fortified areas effectively. The tower can be towed to enemy compounds, providing a secure entry point for raiders.

Ballista

The Ballista is set to change the dynamics of long-range combat in Rust. This siege weapon will utilize "Spear Ammo" and is expected to launch both standard and incendiary bolts. Although still under development, the Ballista promises to be a powerful addition to Rust's arsenal.

Moving Siege Weapons

Siege weapons in Rust can be manoeuvred like vehicles, either manually or using horses. This mobility adds a new dimension to warfare tactics, allowing players to position their siege weapons strategically on the battlefield.

Shields

Rust is also introducing four types of defensive shields: Wooden, Reinforced, Improvised, and Metal. These shields are equipped in the backpack slot and can be drawn out with a delay. They focus on defence, restricting the player's ability to sprint and attack while in use.

Ice Sculptures

In time for the holiday season, ice sculptures are now available for testing. These sculptures can be crafted using 500 wood and 100 metal, adding a creative twist to holiday festivities in Rust.
